OVS would like to announce a new webinar: The New Department of Education Title IX Regulations: What They Mean for Agencies That Serve Student Survivors in New York State.
The Department of Education has issued long-expected Regulations around Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 that may have a substantial impact on how K-12 and higher education institutions are required to investigate and adjudicate certain disclosures of sexual harassment and violence. Laws in New York such as Education Law Article 129-B (governing the process of investigating and adjudicating sexual and interpersonal violence on college campuses) will impact what changes, if any, are made at higher education institutions. Further, litigation and other actions may delay or modify the impact of the rule.
In this webinar, we will discuss
The definitions, requirements, and exceptions in the Regulations, and compare these to New York State law governing colleges and universities;
Offer an update on litigation and other potential changes that may impact implementation of the Regulations; and
Provide key information to answer questions that may come from student survivors

As a follow up to the New Title IX Regulations Webinar held back in June, OVS would like to announce a new webinar:
The Way Forward: Working with College-Aged Survivors of Assault in 2020 and Beyond on Tuesday, August 4 at 1pm. In this webinar, OVS Director Elizabeth Cronin, SUNY’s Elizabeth Brady and Joseph Storch, and Sanctuary for Families Jessica Morak will come together for a frank discussion and Q&A about working with college-aged survivors of assault. We will focus on legal and policy issues and best practices in serving victims and survivors in the wake of COVID-19, the Title IX Regulations, continued conversations of unequal treatment on the basis of race (including for victims and survivors of crime), and the challenges of the distanced environment. The session will briefly remind attendees of the salient issues in the Final Rule, and will then open up for participants to engage in discussion. Jessica Morak will talk about Sanctuary for Families' Campus Advocates Project. We will touch on:
Current resources available from OVS and SUNY to help providers serve New Yorkers
Approaches to challenges, and
How to provide clear and accurate information to the populations we serve
We will also take your questions and discussion points.
